Chris Knight and Pendergast @ KNUCKLEHEADS SALOON
8pm / Tickets $10 Advance, $12 DOS
Raised in the mining towns of Kentucky, Chris Knight grew up with a talent for songwriting and a social conscience to feed his lyrics. On his 2006 release Enough Rope he tells the tales of life in rural America: the farmerthe workin-man. Heavily influenced by singer/songwriter Steve Earle, Knight is the voice of the small town. Knight garners some big praises from more than a few of our Sad Dog friends, in particular one of KCs finest songwriters, Pendergasts Tony Ladesich, who also draws influence from the likes of Steve Earle and Neil Young, telling the tale of the workin-man. It is fitting, or maybe strategically arranged, that the Pendergast boys find themselves kicking off show with their own brand of Americana rock.

The Pink Socks @ FRED P. OTTS
This KC band is the spawn of former KC band The Litigators.
Their Stones-esque brand of bluesy rock and roll is driven home by the unyielding energy and antics of Jeremiah Kidwell. Now, I havent had the opportunity to see what the new line-up of musicians has to offer, but you can be sure, it will be an ass-shakin good time.

JAQS NOTES:
2006 Crossroads Music Festival Recap:
No matter what state of mind I might be in each week, I sit down at my computer to write Sad Dog. Sometimes I am filled with words and cant type fast enough and other times I seem to be force-feeding the pages. I do this for the sole purpose of inspiring our readers to give some, much deserved, attention to this local KC music scene and the musicians who bring us live music each week. Last Saturday I had the privilege to be a part of an event that had Support Your Local Musician written all over it. That event was the Spice of Life Productions Crossroads Music Festival, which proved to be one of my most inspiring experiences to date. Out of 13 bands on the bill, only one hailed from outside Kansas City, area, and musically, it was one of the best festivals I have ever attended. The genres of music ran the gamut ranging from honky-tonk and bluegrass to new wave and punk infused rock. This night went beyond being just another gig, and at least from my perspective, it became a nigh
t of local camaraderie. One thing holds true, I left that evening overwhelmingly proud to be a part of this KC music community and re-fueled in my mission to somehow make the rest of the country take notice of what this city has to offer! Thank you to every musician in all 13 bands who participated, thank you to everyone who came out to rock out at CMF2 and thank you to everyone who volunteered your time to make this event a success. Most of all, thank you to Bill Roach Sundahl and Wende Williamson for giving birth to this Crossroads Music Festival, an event that should become a Kansas City tradition, their constant support of local music and allowing me to be a part of it all. I have worked many a festival and had many memorable moments. I have danced onstage with the Flaming Lips and met more than a few of my idols. This year Its Over invited a few of us up onstage with them to help sing their tune It Will Happen. I can tell you with no uncertainty that being on that stage
and looking out into a sea of KC music fans all dancing, singing, rockin out and supporting the local scene goes right up to the top of the list.
Cheers!
